Our Kalima lampshade lets the light shine through at the sides only in a muted way, making it perfect for illuminating dining tables or a cosy reading corner from above. It also fits particularly well in weather-protected areas in the garden, where it creates a tropical mood with its boho look.

Thanks to the sturdy metal frame and the robust banana fibre, Kalima always keeps its shape, but never looks heavy or massive. This is ensured by the filigree interwoven cords and fringes made of raffia.

The lampshade is available in three different sizes and comes without bulbs and cables. However, these are available in your preferred colour and length in any DIY store.

Main material: Raffia

Our lampshades are made from plant fibers. They therefore wonderfully smell and feel like nature.

Raffia (Corypha utan) occurs naturally in the steppe and forest areas of Southeast Asia. About every two years, the plant renews its leaves and sheds the old ones, which are then collected by humans, dried in the sun for a few days to weeks and processed into wickerwork, depending on the desired degree of browning. The relative rarity and the higher processing effort make this material somewhat more expensive compared to other plant fibers. While it is hardly known in Europe, the material has proven itself with the local population in Southeast Asia in the form of all kinds of everyday objects and is very popular due to its pleasantly soft, but robust nature.

When selecting our local producers, we value fair pay and good working conditions. Only adult and experienced artisans work in the companies from which we purchase our goods. No harmful chemicals are used in the manufacturing process. Since all work steps are done by hand, the production process hardly generates any greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure all of this through regular on-site visits and permanent personal contact with the companies.
